Warehouse Operative & Delivery Driver

Purpose: To operate the function of goods inwards / goods outwards, and efficient management of stock in the warehouse, and ensuring delivery to customers in a timely and efficient manner.

Reports to: General Manager: Gaius Abernethie; Harriet Abernethie (order processing).         Manages: N/A.

  • Primary Responsibilities:  Receive incoming deliveries – taking in parcel deliveries by hand or unloading lorry using forklift truck.
  • Checking all incoming deliveries against purchase orders for accuracy; including noting any damaged or missing items and report to purchasing manager straight away.
  • Sorting, stacking and putting-away of stock for storage in the warehouse.
  • Keeping a watchful eye on the stock in the warehouse and liaising with purchasing for stock control purposes.
  • Operating a forklift truck to move and rearrange stock and ensure that products are stored safely on pallet racking, shelving etc.
  • Picking customers orders and getting them ready for despatch via carrier or delivery via our own vans, or for customer collection.
  • Ensuring orders are packaged and labelled correctly to ensure they get to the customer in good condition, and to the correct address.
  • Organising the loading of goods on to delivery vehicles (Van or lorry).
  • Keeping the warehouse tidy and orderly – including waste removal – will also be part of the daily routine.
  • With heavy equipment in operation and tall pallet racking, following the workplace health and safety rules will be essential.
  • You will also be required to stack empty pallets into the yard, keeping them tidy in the correct stacks.
  • You will also be required to drive the company vans to make deliveries to customers.
  • You will also be responsible to look after the company vans, keeping them free of damage and clean and tidy.
  • You will also be required to help the management from time to time with other tasks as required.
  • From time to time, you may also be required to drop off marketing material to customers.
  1. Performance Objectives: Run the warehouse efficiently – always keep stock orderly and tidy, minimise stock damage.
  2. Picking and packing of customers’ orders in a timely manner.
  3. Putting away incoming goods with attention to detail in checking-in.
  4. Communication with purchasing manager regarding stock levels on a daily basis.
  5. Plan delivery routes in the best way to ensure timely delivery to customers.
  6. Ability to work as part of a team with a ‘can-do’ attitude and maintain excellent Health & Safety performance.

Hours of Work: 8am – 4:30pm with 30 minute lunch break (8 hours), Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. Any overtime is paid pro-rata. Holiday: 28 days including bank or public holidays.

Probationary Period: 6 months.

Pay: Starting rate at £11.50 per hour, reviewable. Pension: we operate the NEST pension scheme for eligible employees.

  • Physical – the job involves extensive manual handling; including lifting heavy objects, operating machinery, driving vehicles; therefore keen physical and mental aptitude is crucial for this role.
  • Education/Experience Required: Secondary education. Ability to read, write, and converse in English. Experience of working in a warehouse environment and delivery driving with exposure to customer service and satisfaction is advantageous.
  • Certifications/Licenses Required: Valid clean UK Driving License. Forklift Operators Certificate Preferable, however training can be provided for this role if no current license is in place.
